The Story of How Bumble Bee Cleaning Services Was Born

In 2014, my wife & I found ourselves at a crossroads. At the time, I was working as a car salesman, a job with good pay & benefits but feeling drained from the endless grind. My wife, who had been cleaning homes for someone else, suggested an idea I initially dismissed: Starting a cleaning business. It didn’t seem glamorous, nor was it something I could imagine myself doing. The leap from selling cars to running a cleaning company felt daunting & unfamiliar. Thankfully, she convinced me to give it a try.

We started with just $5,000. Most of that went toward purchasing a used Honda Accord to get us from job to job. The rest covered a vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies, & some marketing materials like flyers & business cards. Armed with determination & little else, we began taking calls & booking jobs out of our home.

Within 3 months, the business brought in more money than my car sales job. That was the moment I knew we had something special. I left my job and went all-in on what would eventually become Bumble Bee Cleaning Services.

A $90 move-out cleaning that took 12 hours taught us the importance of knowing your numbers & valuing your time. Another lesson came when we misclassified our employees, resulting in a hefty fine. These experiences reinforced the importance of understanding the financial & legal aspects of running a business.

Despite these challenges, we never lost sight of our vision. By staying customer-focused & continuously improving, Bumble Bee Cleaning Services has grown from that one car to a fleet of vehicles & a team of over 25 dedicated employees serving hundreds of satisfied clients.
